What is a Christian? A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. A mature Christian is one who adopts the habits of a disciple, and who acknowledges Christ's authority over all areas of life. At Church Muskoka Style, our goal is to grow Christians into mature, fully functioning members of Christ's church. Our comprehensive discipleship program (101, 201, 301 and 401 courses) is a means of bringing spiritual fruit into the life of the believer. Galatians 5:22 says, "But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control..."

What is baptism? Christian baptism is an event in which a believer makes a public confession that he/she has turned away from sin and is committed, in faith, to Jesus as Saviour and Lord (see Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; 41; 9:18; 10:47-48; 18:8; Romans 10:9). In general, baptism should follow directly on the heels of faith. It is seen by many Christians as the beginning of true discipleship and is often referred to as "a first step of obedience." Baptism does not confer salvation because salvation is by faith alone. It is not necessary for salvation; otherwise, the thief on the cross could not have been with Jesus after his death. At Church Muskoka Style, we practice "believer's baptism." We do not baptize those who are not old enough to understand the event and its significance in their lives. The pattern and the language of the New Testament indicate that baptism was done by full immersion, so that is what we practice.

What is communion? Through communion, or the Lord’s Supper, the church acknowledges that it cost the body and the blood of Jesus Christ to save us from sin and death. Communion binds Christians together. In sharing the bread (representing His body) and the wine (representing His blood), they demonstrate their unity in Christ. Baptism and communion are the only rituals commanded by Christ.
