....................................................................................................
The Christian and Missionary Alliance
founder,
A. B. Simpson, had four distinct personal
and spiritual experiences of Jesus Christ. These four ways that we can come to know and experience Christ as
we grow in our
relationship are known as the Fourfold Gospel.
The first experience is that of
Christ as Saviour. This involves believing that God loves us and that sin
is a problem. It separates us from God. So, God
sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for us to make things right. We must
admit our need for help, and acknowledge that we can't do it on our own.
We must turn away from sin and selfish desires. It also involves
receiving Jesus into our hearts, minds and souls as Lord and Saviour.
This act takes places in both the physical
and spiritual realm.
It
is a spiritual rebirth. This is where the walk with Christ begins. This surrender precedes baptism.
The second way to experience Christ is
as Sanctifier. "Sanctifier" means "transformer". A.B. Simpson came to know Jesus as one
who was transforming
him, changing him, leading him and empowering him to
be holy. In short, he was becoming more like Jesus himself. Transformation is what Christianity is all
about. It is the evidence of our spiritual rebirth and our complete
surrender to Him.
The third way we can experience Christ
is as our Healer. Often,
we don't tap into the power that God has for us.
Even as Christ transforms us and changes us, He
is, in a sense, healing
us. As we give Him past hurts and pain inflicted by others, He heals and
releases us from that pain. Christ also brings healing to our physical
bodies, at times through supernatural healing. This does not mean that we
don't seek proper medical help or that we don't take care of our bodies.
At Church Muskoka Style we are committed to taking care of our physical
bodies. They are gifts from God, which after spiritual rebirth become
temples of the Holy Spirit. Eating right, exercising and getting enough
sleep are all important parts of the healing process that God begins
within us.
The final way that A.B. Simpson knew
Christ was as his coming King. Our denomination's founder placed all
his hope in the one who would return as King when the gospel had been
preached to all nations. This is primarily where his incredible zeal
for world missions has its roots. He wanted more than anything else
for Jesus to return and set up His Kingdom in the new heavens and new
earth that God promises to make.
