....................................................................................................
In November of 1997, The Christian and
Missionary Alliance planted a church in Huntsville.
At the time, some asked, "Why does Huntsville need another
church?"
The answer to the question was simple:
This new church was going to be different. It would appeal to a different group of people. This new
way of doing church would become known as "Church Muskoka Style".
Pastor Jeff Roy comments:
"Church Muskoka Style involves regular
changes. We are open to new ideas and ways of sharing our faith and doing
church. The idea is to create an environment where people who do not
attend church can come and feel comfortable. We understand that people
have reasons why they stopped attending, or have never attended church.
Years ago, I stopped attending church for a number of different
reasons. It wasn't that I stopped believing in God. Church just
didn't seem relevant.
At
Church Muskoka Style we seek to overcome the reasons why people aren't
attending church. We want to remove the barriers that keep people from
coming. You can come as you are—casual
dress is the norm. The format is relaxed and interactive. Children are
also a huge priority to us. Our
children's programs
encourage them to think about spiritual things.
There is another side to Church Muskoka
Style that you might not expect. Yes,
we are serious about providing a
relaxed and casual atmosphere, but we are also serious about spiritual
growth. Jesus teaches that we need each other and that accountability
plays a large role in spiritual and personal growth. We have to let go of
pride and be real. When people come to the church for a while and
decide they want to grow spiritually, we have a process for spiritual
growth that they can consider. We also have people who will help them work
through this process and hold them accountable. It isn't easy,
but we have seen this honesty and commitment transform people
before our very eyes. In fact, if you know someone who is committed to
Church Muskoka Style, you have probably seen positive changes
in his or
her life."
